Directorate of Economics & Statistics participates in the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) Programme of collecting information’s on various Economic- Socio facts of the Indian Economy through nationwide National Sample Surveys to assist in the Socio-Economic planning and policy-making. The National Sample Survey (NSS) set up by Government of India in 1950 to collect socio-economic data employing scientific sampling methods. Each Round of NSS is either for six months or yearly as per NSSO’S programme and the state participates on equal matching basis. Subject matters of each Round are taken up by NSSO and time to time different important National Socio-economic issues are selected.
DES collects the basic data from the households in the State Sample through its own field inspectors. The questionnaires, concepts etc. used are the same as those of NSSO uses in the Central Sample. State Sample size for rural and urban area is same as that in the central sample. The first stage units to be surveyed are decided by NSSO. Complete enumeration is done in the selected hamlet groups in the rural areas and sub-blocks in the urban areas and the required number of Households is selected randomly. For each Round, DES conducts pre-survey Training to the field staff. The fieldwork conducts by Computer & Inspector which were posted at District & Block level. Deputy Director/Assistant Director and Assistant Statistical Officer & Officers of DES supervised the survey. Data entry held at the District Offices. Validation & Tabulation of State Sample data are performed at DES level.
Currently the field work of 77th Round (Jan 2019 to Dec 2019) is in progress. During this Round “Schedule 33.1 – Land and Livestock Holding of Households and Situation Assessment of Agricultural Households,” “Schedule 18.2 – Debt and Investment” are used for information. In this round 336 rural and 182 urban total 518 samples has been allotted.

The Standing Committee on Industrial Statistics (SCIS) considered from time to time various recommendations of National Statistical Commission (NSC) related to Industrial Statistics which included the recommendations to develop a comprehensive Business Register. Further the decision/ recommendations and grant assistance of the 13th Finance Commission to develop inter-alia, Business Registers at District Level.
PREPARATION AND MAINTENANCE OF BUSINESS REGISTERS:-
Survey based Business Register – For preparation of district wise BR two Phases of survey was conducted in the state up to 31/08/2015 and information collected under seven acts namely, Indian Companies Act-1956, Factories Act-1948, Shop & Commercial Establishment Act-1958, Society Registration Act-1958, Cooperative Society Act-2001, Khadi & Village Industries Board, District Industries Centre (Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises Development Act-2006).
Business Registration Number issued to existing registered enterprises is 332203. After survey 33 District Business Registers were prepared in prescribed format. A notification published on 21.09.2016, the state government is hereby pleased to direct all the state registering authorities and other establishments including electricity/water supply authorities/local bodies/municipalities etc. to incorporate the 16-digit Business Registration Number on prescribed application while accepting application for registration/renewal and for other related works by all the entrepreneurs.
The State government has deemed it necessary to develop Business register and establish Business Registration Centre (BRC) in all Districts of the Deputy/Assistant Director’s Office of Economics & Statistics Department. The overall supervision of Business Register related work will be done by Ex-Officio State Business Registrar at State Level and Ex-Officio Additional District Business Registrar at District Level.
All the entrepreneur of enterprises/firms gets 16 digit Business Registration Number free of cost online at portal http://br.raj.nic.in, via aadhar or Jan-Aadhaar card. If submit other Id proof, i.e. driving licence, PAN card, voter Id, Passport or Ration card then the applicant gets a Reference Number. After approved by BRC, they will get BRN.
BR portal has been live for the public for apply BRN from 13.12.2016 and separate application available for applying NGO/VOs at BR portal from 04.10.2018.

• village and town wise Directory of BRN is also available .
• Update facility is also available for the applicants that have Reference Number. After generation of BRN, the facility of updation is only available at BRC.
• A Toll free number (1800-180-6785) is also available.
• FAQs, guidelines, tutorial and BRC contact list with e-mail is also available.
• Use safety features for ID proof authentication to be safe from cybercrime.
• BRN application has QR code. This code cannot be copied.
